Wine Item Detail

Item Description:
Cameron 2007 Pinot Noir - Clos Electrique

Tasting Notes:
John Paul, winemaker and humorist extraordinaire (check out his newsletters and Mondo Ego at www.cameronwines.com) has got quite the following with his hard-to-find beautifully funky wines. Having a PhD in Marine Biology, this crazed scientist crafts all his wines using traditional Old World Burgundian techniques. The resulting wines reflect the terroir; pure, organic, non-irrigated Oregon dirt and barnyard. Only naturally occurring yeasts are used and the wines are barrel aged for almost two years before racking, and are never filtered. Organically farmed and one of the warmer vineyards in the Dundee Hills, the 4 acre estate vineyard, Clos Electrique, named for the surrounding electrical fence, consists of two acres of Pinot noir, half an acre of Nebbiolo and the remainder of Chardonnay. Each block of grapes was planted beginning in 1984 through the mid 1990s to multiple clones, which increases the complexity of the wine. A down-to-earth soulfulness and dark fruit are the latticework the Clos Electrique builds upon. This is one of those wines that is approachable when released and remarkably intense and lively even after years in the cellar.
